about

Over the past few years I have built a small library of music. I've uploaded these individually to my YouTube channel, but now I'm trying to consolidate them into a group.

So, this is a compilation of some of those tracks. If asked, I'd call this a demo. The keen listener will be able to tell which tracks were made before some others. In total, I'd say this has musical ideas spanning from 2018 to 2021.

Something, We Hoped (track 1) features my buddy Jerry Filipek on the bass. I was so excited when he first showed me his ideas for the bass part. After a couple of rounds back and forth, he hands me this bass part that I loved. It was an eye opening experience to me to see how much the bass part changes the identity of the music. The whole time I had been working on this before handing it to Jerry, I had an idea of what is was going to sound like. Once I added his part, the music shifted context and had a new harmonic identity. Not in a bad way!

Memory Reel 1 and 2 feature all of my buddies from our old band SoulScribe. It had been years since the last time we all played together, and we wanted to get together again over a long weekend. So, we all met up in an apartment in Statesboro, plugged in, hit record, and went. These two tracks are basically cut from our own private tiny desk concert just for us. I can't quite call the final files a 'live recording' because I added the drums and a few other things afterwards. But the frameworks of these two tracks were built in realtime as we were just improvising with each other, like we had never stopped playing together at all.
